Harlequin ducks (Histrionicus histrionicus) are cold-water birds with colorful plumage. This piece is carved in the Contemporary Decoy style, defined by sturdier, less intricate carving, while still allowing for more painted detail than a true working decoy requires. This particular carving has holes in the bottom where a weighted keel was once attached.
